Routine and emergency surgery
Our experienced veterinary surgeons perform surgery in our in-house fully equipped surgical suite. Our patients are continuously monitored during their general anaesthetic by a registered veterinary nurse working in conjunction with a veterinary surgeon. Please see anaesthesia for more information about this.
On the day of surgery your pet will have been fasted, the length of fasting varies between individual patients and will have been discussed with you beforehand. Your pet will be admitted on the day of surgery for a pre-anaesthetic clinical examination and the treatment plan will be discussed in detail.
Neutering has many health benefits for both female and male dogs and cats. The decision to neuter and timing of neuter will vary between patients so it will be best to discuss this with your vet or nurse prior to the procedure.
Spay (ovariohysterectomy)
Both ovaries and the uterus (womb) are removed through a small incision just below the bellybutton. We close these incisions using intradermal absorbable stitches so no stitches will be visible after the procedure.
Castration
Both testicles are removed through a small incision in front of the scrotum for dogs or on the scrotum for cats. We close the incision using absorbable intradermal stitches so no stitches will be visible after the procedure.
After surgery your pet will have a discharge appointment where the details of the procedure will be discussed with you as well as aftercare instructions. Your pet may go home with a traditional cone or with an inflatable cone or pet shirt (onesie) to prevent them licking their incision.
You will have post-operative check ups included in your procedure plan to monitor your pet’s progress after surgery. Feel free to call, email or whatsapp if you have any concerns following surgery.
